Nzuko
Arochukwu of Northern California is a non-profit organization located in the San
Francisco/Bay Area. As a non-profit organization, we work in tangent with the national umbrella, the
All Aro USA, to
organize and provide annual medical missions to our ancestral homeland, Arochukwu, Nigeria. As 'Umo-Aro' in diaspora, we use the Ikeji Aro
celebration and the national conference events to stay connected and share our

Moreover, we engage in charitable
and volunteer activities that contributes to the development and enrichment of our
Northern California local communities, provide a forum to promote unity and good
citizenship for all members in Northern California, raise appreciation of and
awareness of the Arochukwu culture and heritage within our local community, and
foster mutual understanding, sharing of resources, and mutual development of
Northern California communities and Arochukwu, Nigeria.
Past Activities:
Inauguration of the organization took place in
October 2001. Officers were elected and both Constitution and By-Laws were
ratified. Membership drive was initiated. We had Year-end get-together for members
and their families, and invited guests from the local community. Santa Claus
entertained kids. We had a food drive and collected canned and other non-perishable
food items that were donated to the Samaritan house in San Mateo, California. Mazi
Oji, the President of the organization narrated Arochukwu history and the
significance of its rich culture, for the benefit of our young members and the
invited guests including members of the First African Episcopal Church of Union
City. In June 2002, the organization held its first annual picnic for the members
and invited friends and co-workers from our local community. Also in summer of
2002, the organization donated $200 to support the San Francisco Breast Cancer Walk.
Present Activities:
The organization holds quarterly meetings to discuss
matters of general interest and updates on assignments given to established
committee(s). The organization was incorporated in the state of California as a
non-profit entity in April 2002 and has been in the process of obtaining a 501 (C)
(3) non-profit organization status. The planning committee for the official
launching of the organization has been selected and tasked to organize the launching
activities.

Community
Services: The organization will engage in various charitable and volunteer
activities within the Northern California local communities such as:

Food drive for
the homeless

Partnership
with other community youth oriented programs for volunteer services

Donate African
black culture specific books to local schools and libraries

Extend college
or other educational scholarships to local students

Promote and
share the importance of Arochukwu culture in various venues

The
Organization will network with members and local communities to foster good
citizenship.
Social: The organization will
provide an umbrella for social and cultural gatherings and learning for its
members and local community participants, and a venue for interaction with each
other to pursue matters of general interest and usefulness to our community and
the organization.
Economic:
The organization will provide a forum to foster
mutual economic discussions, sharing of resources and development of Northern
California communities and Arochukwu, Nigeria
The Organization may provide forum in its
proposed website for global discussion of issues pertaining to Arochukwu in
particular, and Igbo people and Nigeria in general. |
